CHENGDU

Located in southwest China, Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan province, and the fifth most important economic, transportation and communication centre in China. Chengdu is one of the major pharmaceutical R&D centres in China, due to its former role as the capital of Traditional Chinese Medicine. It is also an established national base for electronics and IT, an major international financial institutions have established it as a financial hub.
Air travel to Chengdu is possible from most cities in China, and from major countries. There are over 20 major universities and colleges, and a huge student population requiring accommodation and homestays.
Tourists come to see the Panda Research Base, Chengdu Zoo, Sichuan Opera and the various temple and museums dotted around the area.
